Baby love-5

Baby love-6

Is sharing your binki.

All moms with children of like ages play matchmaker. I’m pretty sure that’s a truth from the dawn of mommy play dates.

But I really think these two have something special…

Baby love-7Don’t you?

(Recognize this little guy? He’s growing into such a handsome little man!)

Cooking with a Toddler

What I imagine it looks like:cooking-2

Or this:cooking-3

Reality:cookingWe still ate the cookies.

And they were really good…

Just a little salty.

(Was that too much? Cause I’m laughing right now…)

Every time I look at that photo it gets better and better. It may be one of my most favorite mother-daughter photos so far. Kudos to Nikki for taking it.

Twinkle Twinkle…

As promised

Posted in Uncategorized | 2 Comments

And to think I was worried…

I was. Remember?

“Mama, what’s that?”

“It’s the spray bottle I use on the cats when they jump on the table.”

“Birdhouses!”

“Yes, there are bird houses on the bottle. You’re right!”

“One, two, free, four. Four birdhouses. Daddy said no for Mo.”

“You’re right. Daddy said Mo can’t use it.”

“Doe,” (That still means ‘yes’.) “Mo too little.”

I smiled as I tucked the hair behind her ear and thought, Oh, but you’re so big.

There are hundreds of other conversations we have every day that better express how far her verbal skills have come. But for some reason, that simple exchange at the breakfast table made it clear to me: we’re in the clear.

She has a growing vocabulary, can tell you her feelings (this morning, as she remembered falling down a couple days ago, “Mo is a little bit sad”), can count, say her ABCs and sings Twinkle Twinkle (video to come).

It is a joy to watch her grow.

Somehow, every day, Mo is both “too Little” and “so Big”.

It’s All True

I’m a scoffer. And to all of you whom I scoffed at, I apologize. I’m sorry. Because it’s all true. Everything you said. All of it.

Enjoy high school, it’ll fly by. True.

Friends come and go, but sisters are forever. So be nice! True.

Have a good time in college. You’ll be done before you know it. True.

You should know how to change a tire. True.

Boys are dumb. It’s not the end of the world! Don’t worry, someday you’ll find Mr. Right. True.

20 isn’t old. Ha! True.

Home ownership is a lot of work. True.

30 isn’t old. True.

Weight is just harder to drop the older you get! True.

Savor her while she’s little, she’ll be a toddler soon. True.

Babies are tougher than you think. True.

Don’t worry! She’ll talk. True.

I promise. You will sleep through the night again, someday. True.

You think one is hard, just wait till you have two! True.

What else is true?

40 isn’t old? They’ll be teenagers before I know it? You think babies are hard, just wait…?  Four is no worse than three? No one goes to kindergarten in diapers? PLEASE tell me that’s the truth…

Or how about what I heard working in a nursing home:

I was young once too, you know…

85 years gone…in the blink of an eye…

You’re so skinny and have great teeth. Enjoy those while they last…

Some day you’ll be alone, so treasure him now…

Maybe I should start doing a little more believing and a little less scoffing…

That Hair…

Binky Smile!Recently, comments about Lu have switched from “Wow, she’s a chunky monkey” to “Wow! Look at that hair!”

And I couldn’t agree more.

This girl has a lot of hair.

So much hair!Well…on top, at least.

She’s a fan of wiggling. ‘Round here, we often call her Wiggles. And most of her wiggling involves rotating her head from side to side. So, she’s worn off most of her original hair on the sides and back.

That wouldn’t be a problem if it was growing back in that dark, luscious, almost black color she came with.

Dark hairHowever, she is following in Mo’s footsteps (or, more accurately, gene-steps, hardy har har), and Lu’s hair is growing in blonde. This means from the back and sides, she looks bald. From the top or front, however, her hair looks dyed.

Curls on topNo, I did not have my daughter’s hair “tipped” as I had to tell one inquisitive stranger. It’s 100% natural.

Just different. And exactly the way we like it.

Half a Year

Serious BabyIn my life, time is always moving either to quickly or two slowly. I never, ever check the clock and think, Wow, that’s exactly the time it should be.

No, my thoughts are usually something like Oh my gosh! It’s NOON. How can it be noon already? or Ug. It’s only 3:30 AM? I’m pretty sure the sun is never going to rise…

There's your smile! So, I look at Luci-Lu and think, 184 days have passed. Six months? Wow. Already? and yet somehow also, Only half a year? Haven’t you been with me for always?

Who's the Cutest?

Lu,

So quickly have you staked out your space in my heart, that in a mere six months my world is incomplete without you. You brighten each day with your wide smile and full-body wiggles. Mo adores you. Andy adores you. You bring joy to every person you meet. Happy first half-birthday my Pretty Girl (a couple days late…). I can’t imagine my life without you.

-Mommy

We love you Lu!

For those of you who like numbers, here are the stats from her well-check today: Height- 2’3″, Weight- 18lbs 4oz, Head Circumference- 18.27″

Pirates Eat Their Yogurt

Sometimes, it’s hard to finish supper. Especially if nap was skipped (like yesterday) or late (like today). There are so many other things Mo loves to do besides eat, like sing and dance and color and watch Dora. It was time to get creative before we moved to Meltdown-dom.

Eye PatchI introduce to you: Pirate Dinner. Because, as everyone knows, the best way to eat yogurt is while covering one eye (actually that can cause some depth perception issues, and perhaps more yogurt ends up on the table/face/floor than actually in a mouth, but we don’t judge).

After a hearty round of “Arrr Matey!” the parrot was introduced, played by my hand perched gently on my shoulder.

“Squawk! Eat your yogurt! Squawk!”

ARRRRR!!Mo thought that was perhaps the funniest thing she had ever seen. We almost witnessed yogurt out her nose.

In her own parrot like manner, she repeated everything our fake feathered friend said.

“Squawk, squawk! Squuuaaawwwwwwk!!”

However, it came out a little warped.

“Squ” came out sounding more like “Ffff” and “awk” sounded a lot like “uck”.

Yeah. That word, over and over and over, interrupted only by fits of laughter and a hearty “Arrrr!”

Pirate HooksCurled up fingers became pirate hooks, spoons became swords, and our hands were filthy-mouthed parrots.

At some point the yogurt got knocked to the floor, but I’m not sure when. We were too busy laughing. And pirate-ing. And laughing some more.

How do you end a perfectly good Pirate-supper? Pirate dance party of course!

And when Mo wants a dance party, everybody dances.

Dance Party!Even that dirty parrot, “Squawk! Polly wanna dance!”

Family Photos!

Forgot to post my favorite Christmas photo:

Ourfamily Christmas(photo credit: My Mom)

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, dear friends and family!

More Christmas and New Years photos to come. It’ll just take me a day or two to wade through them all (yeah, there are a lot of them!). For now, check out this gem:

Mo and Lu Santa 2012

Oh Lulu, I’m sorry. It was absolutely necessary to post this photo on our little blog. There is someone out there, right now, smiling after a hard day because of your deer-in-the-headlights eyes and super-rosy cheeks (probably your Uncle Tim). You had just spent the last hour snuggled up against me, asleep. I had to wake you up and wrangle you into your dress in time to sit you on Santa’s lap, and you know what? You did so well. The kids before and after you burst into tears. Albeit, you look a little confused, but you certainly weren’t fussy. I love you. Thanks for being such a happy baby. Love, Mommy

The girls just finished opening presents today (yeah, there were a lot of them!), so expect some thank you blogs in the near future!
